Owning a variety of houseplants has its benefits. Not only do plants provide a high level of aesthetic, they also can help purify the air and make your pad appear more valuable according to a free home appraisal. While some people have the luxury of having a lot of natural light, which is optimal for plant lovers, others find themselves in dark spaces. If you’re someone who has a house without a lot of natural light, you might not feel very confident in your plant raising abilities. Before giving up hope, you might want to consider that there are some options for growing plants without a lot of sunshine. Here are some tips for growing indoor houseplants in low light conditions.

    Be Mindful About Placement

If you want your houseplants to thrive, you’re going to need to be clever with where you put your plants. If you have plants that crave light, place them in spots that have the most sunlight during the daytime. When choosing where to place these plants, remember that there are more places than just the ground. With plants, you can hang them from ceilings, place them on shelves, and even put them on balconies. Do some planning and watch your plants thrive.

Choose Plants that Don’t Require a Lot of Light

Sometimes, you just can’t be picky with the plants that you want if your home isn’t the best with lighting. Luckily, there are so many beautiful plants that do well with a lot of shade. Some of these plants include:

    • Pothos
    • Philodendrons
    • Ivy
    • Ponytail Palms
    • Watermelon peperomia

All of these plants are vibrant, attractive, and don’t need a lot of sunshine to maintain their beautiful appearances.

    Resort to LED Lighting Solutions

When all else fails, try using some artificial solutions. Surprisingly, LED lighting acts as a good alternative to natural light and is very affordable and accessible. In addition to LED lights being good for plants, they’re also more eco-friendly than other types of lightbulbs as they last longer and require less energy to run. Sounds like a win-win if you ask us!

    Add Heat in Colder Environments

Not only does light give plants the energy they need to photosynthesize, they also provide necessary levels of heat to survive. If your plants aren’t at their ideal temperature, they’re not going to do very well. One solution for those living in cooler environments is to provide some heat to keep plants warm. You can purchase plant-purposed heating mechanisms to place underneath your houseplants to provide them with some warmth and keep them growing!

    Follow Careful Watering Practices

One of the most important things to understand about plants is that most can be extremely picky with water. If you’re already not able to provide a lot of light, you’ll want to be careful with underwatering and overwatering. Underwatering can leave plants feeling parched while overwatering can cause their roots to rot. Do some research on how much water your plant requires, and be very conservitve with how much you choose to water them.

If you’re a plant lover but don’t have a home with a lot of natural light, don’t worry too much. You can still have a house full of thriving houseplants! Be mindful about watering, purchase plants that aren’t very needy for light, and be careful about placement. With some maneuvering, you’ll be able to grow healthy and lively plants!
